none of his spells are limited to himself which usually indicates he's more suited towards support or utility

With adequate support, and likely an earlier teamfight ulti, such as Ravage, you use your spells and just keep people from running.
Could it work in a legitimate game?

I did.
Last pick. Hopefully not banned as you would pick supports and good teamfight ults beforehand.
omni is not durable enough to take the dmg. He can heal and all, but MoM makes him 2 squshy.

-Lifesteal Mask
-Phase Boots (upgrade boots)
-Finish Mask of Madness
-Yasha
-Drums/Sange and Yasha (upgrade Yasha)
Move at max speed on a very short CD, to keep enemies from running away, because they can't.
