Well New York is generally the rudest and crudest bunch of people I've ever met not on the internet...but you also have to consider confirmation selection bias. He shows everyone believing he is important...including people who think he is spiderman and claim they have his lastest single...I'm sure there were a lot of people who also didn't care about his body guards and such at all. If you have actually been to New York you know one very common feature of the people is they don't pay attention to anything that does not concern them. Most New Yorkers would consider it beneath them to notice an obscure celebrity and try not to look at him. The popular attitude to adopt is boredom and cynicism.
