He is one of those do alot with nothing heroes. I kinda like to play him myself, because he contributes alot in all the stages in the game, and is very strong in both aggro and defensive tri lanes
I dont understand why his winrate is that low. Still my favorite hero, but I think his main nerf wasnt on his ultimate but the remove of his poisions vision.
shadow demon is a extremely aggressive support hero that most support players dont grasp(alot of them pref defensive playstyle). SD is a monster in the early laning phase. SD works really nicely for me since I suck at playing defensive :P
I think the problem is most players who use him aggressive push the lane with the poison and it ends up backfiring as the other team just pulls lane back and farms under tower while denying you xp/last hits. Shadow demon is very tricky to position.
Mark my build doesnt even use poison I tend to play SD in dual lanes banish curse stun/slow and rape :P
Well than that would be the part where you said most support players don't grasp his style. Cus whenever I have a shadow demon in my lane he spams poison and pushes it.
I think many people are just 2 retarded for the soul catcher, its the same with void crono, for some reason its just 2 hard to move your selection abit so you dont soulcatch a creep or crono your mates.
I think SD is a very nice hero, but he needs someone to work with, since hes a terrible solo hero ( 2 squishy). People rather want to solo rape everyone, thats why people prefer CM,Lina,Lion and so on as a support.

OK so basically i want to rant about shadow demon being (in my opinion) massively underplayed. On the new patch, he's 4th on the least-played list, and also 4th on the lowest win-rate list. Before the patch, he was sporadically seen in competitive play (in the International, Shadow Demon had a 44% win rate and was actually picked a respectable 32 times).
He actually got a minor buff in the new patch, after getting his ulty nerfed previously (his ultimate used to 1 shot warlock golums: but no more).
I acknowledge his weaknesses: vulnerable to long-range initiates and stuns/silences (pudge, for example, can make SD's life miserable early game). Furthermore, he is difficult to team fight with. It's easy to panic in a team fight after you use your disrupt, as it's long cool down often leaves players running around w/ their heads cut off trying to spam shadow poison without taking too much damage---I myself am guilty of this some times, and the effect is amplified if you are silenced. I mean honestly, a silenced shadow demon is pretty useless.
However, I think his strengths are severely undervalued in pub play. He is a superb ganker and can turn into a long-range initiator with a force staff (many prefer blink dagger). Also, pairing force staff with eul's makes him very squishy in tandem with self-disruption. Not to mention his shadow poison allows him to act as a royal pain the the arse early game.
Long live the shadow demon!
