tell him not to get scepter, the cast range only makes it worse since if you cast it while being further away the enemy will have more time to scatter and 90 bonus damage per bounce is very little
then he can get mek earlier instead which does not stop being useful as long as the enemies have the same amount of farm as they did in that game

Last time I checked he goes scepter after mek though. The issue is how late that first item mek is. If he is the warding bitch/number 5, should it maybe be the other support who gets the mek?
With lich is not that hard to get 15-20 min mek. Just get some kills / assists and take 1-2 towers. And don't die. Unless the enemy team has invisible heroes and you need to buy sentries too, if you don't die, should have your 20 min mek, even with 0 cs.
Most pros make mek on jungler or mid hero because they can get it faster then the support. Or if they make it on support, they make it on the support that is doing the pulling.
It's better for supports to divide their tasks between each other, but in pubs you'll probably have to do on your own. Besides, mek is listed as core on lich, so people are more likely to expect you to get it

late mek is fucking awful if you are in late game your most important items will be force staff + ghost scepter, optional heavens helberd, optional roa for linkens pop, optional diffusal blade for hex purge, linkens w/e. mek on support is awful anyways, more so late mek.

Yes I skip mek if I can't achieve it past 30 min. If you are having trouble getting this as your first item past that point I don't think you can achieve a veil of discord any time soon either.
I know it is tough being slot 5 very under appreciated role. Hats off to ya for taking on a tough thankless role!
Mek falls off in effectiveness significantly as the game progresses and HP levels rise. Veil not so much. So the argument that a late mek is not worth it doesnt not apply to a late veil. Obv bkbs come into play more, but they would be there anyways. Late veil is still increasing the power of your spells on players without BKB.
On a hero like lich it may be worth going for veil instead of mek if you cant get it until late. But if you are really struggling to get money for a mek on lich that badly, then the game is probably not going well at all. You should have a ton of assists, have won your lane most likely with sacrifice and frost blast spam harass, and likely a few kills from chain frost as well.
Rule of thumb:
After early game, just click on a carry to follow him around and absorb xp/gold. I get stupid some days and try to solo lane farm my dazzle. So stupid.... why do I do that? Oh yeah I work 60 hours a week married with children and my mind doesn't make the best decisions after 4 hours of sleep! :(

My point had nothing to do with that anyways - I was just saying that with Lich one should be able to get a mek easily fast enough for it to be effective (dazzle also though not quite as easily). And that veil does not fall off in effectiveness like mek does (in fact it is quite a lot more powerful later in the game with lvl 3 ultimate etc).
Mek is only not good to get if 2-3 opposing players have either MKB or deadalus. Otherwise it's still good.
Considering armour and magic resistance, late game carries will be grateful even with 250 hp. Though Veil really does make the enemy melt.
I kinda never build mek if im solo support / 2 supp but buying all the wards chicken etc. Offlaner should by it or mid, or we wont have a mek. I know I should build pipe more often, I just usually buy my int staff for fstaff before thinking -.-' As Lich, buy that headdress and if you can finish the mek before ~20min at most, buy it, if not, opt for pipe if enemy has strong spells. That 400 absorb is a lot more than 250 heal, also works wonders on creeps when you want to push t3 and they have some aoe spells to clear them. Mek wont help, they would be dead before you could use it. A 8-10 min mek on an offlaner is really good, thats where it should be. Or a jungler if its a chen or something that is a support and doesnt need blink. Or even enigma can get it, if offlaner dont want to and get a later blink, meka is still good... Just dont build it on a solo support, its gonna be useless when you get it. Other items would be a lot more useful. I love urn of shadows if I want to heal btw, costs a lot less, still gives you some tankiness (same as bracer, so i build it instead of bracer), its cheap too... And as lich you should be around fights and getting charges all the time.
I usually build a mek on lich couse i get some ks with chain frost though, but if not, no meka ..

Just a quick question. My friend plays support exclusively and most games he ends up getting mek ON AVERAGE around 25-40 min (first item mek) due to the other support not helping with wards/dust/sentries.
My question is: Is mek even worth getting this late into the game? Is there anything he can do to get mek faster? He pretty much just plays Lich.
