Pudge, antimage and sniper (your thoughts) .... in General Discussion
SNK

    (4.1K solo mmr)
I think Pudge and antimage are the worst heroes out there and I feel so bad everytime I see them getting picked by my team mates (happy when they are on the opposing side). Pudge stays useless all game long (not everyone is dendi) against some remotely decent players who know how to not get hooked whereas Antimage just handicaps the whole team making them go 4v5 (other carries make minor contributions and don't suck that much). Same goes for sniper, If you can close the distance then sniper just disappears (qop). Recently a friend told me that I was being delusional and these heroes are some of the great carries out there. So the question here is am I really being delusional when I consider them being the most useless heroes and see their pickers getting abused by team mates or are they really worth something? (please explain why you think they are useful or useless)

      Indeed.

They are not the worst, they are just situational. They are simply just too popular and picked when their not as effective.

Like a decent Pudge is quite deadly against Mid heroes such as Tinker or TA. Or a Sniper is devastating when theres not enough gap closers or your teammates have peeling skills. Etc.

The heroes are all perfectly fine in pub settings. AM, Sniper and Pudge can be all strong in the right lineup and the right player. The problem is simply the kind of players they tend to attract.

Pudge -> Attracts players who like to think they can make big plays.
AM -> Attracts players who like the sound of gold.
Sniper -> Attracts players who like feeling able to last hit.

Nothing is wrong with the heroes themselves per-se, its mostly the players. Notice from the stats on DotaBuff that as a hero's pick-rate dwindles, the win-rate often goes up by a similar amount, as the remaining people who pick these heroes are usually only those relatively confident with them. Unfortunately, some heroes are so popular that they simply attract more bad players - thus the misconception that these heroes are bad.

                @zenoth

i love all 3 of those heroes

they all become real big power houses in their own ways and them being "hated/underrated" makes me love them more

                however

-> i don't think i can make big plays, but i'm at least okay I think
-> i do love hearing the sound of gold, i wouldn't know if i'm playing this hero wrong at this moment
-> also love sniper's last hitting capabilities <3 i would vote my laning mechanics as my strongest area (seeing your mmr explanation thread)

                Dipshit

                  Useless? Not at all.

Pudge is one of the biggest abusers of positioning in the game.
Anti-Mage synchronizes incredibly well both with and against invokers as well as anyone else that has a large mana pool and burns it quickly.
Sniper can be one of the most frustrating experiences you will ever have, especially once he has an mkb. Not to mention it's very easy to ignore him as he attacks from so far off the front lines.

The biggest problem with these heroes, as was already stated, is the fact that bad players tend to be attracted to these heroes. And just because they're bad players doesn't mean they won't make the game-changing play either. I've seen an 0-12 pudge make a game changing hook that caused the win of the game(and it was their only good hook of said game). On the other hand I've seen a 24-1 pudge that messed up one hook and caused the loss of a teamfight.

Why am when you can pick TB

                    Zahard

they are the worst heroes if played by average players. for example, i am also 4,2k mmr and i like to play am a lot, and i thought that my winrate with him sucks so bad just because my teammates lost early game, but then i downloaded some replays of me playing am and only then i realised how much i suck with him.

                      Low Expectations

What did I just read.... AM is a good hero just not nearly as easy as people seem to think (pretty shitty hp pool tho). Pudge is probably worst of the three as he is a hit or miss hero. And sniper is a ridiciulously good hero just make him survivable. He farms well so its quite easy. If you have a S&Y on sniper a qop can blink near you throw all spells and just die while u rightclick her to death. I managed to win all lategame encounters vs carries except Spectra and Void (Spectra only becuse I had bad build) . Sniper is an amazing hero who is easy to play and I am pretty sure he is still viable at 5K mmr
