Science vessels got plagued. Their hp drops to 1, which means any unit can 1 shot them, and they are very costly to make. They give detection of invisible units IE lurkers, which he was attempting to kill, but now cant move them in range or he will lose a shit ton of bank. So he's forced to re-position his troops until he repairs the vessels or makes new ones.
