I think that people smurf because of 3 reasons
1. What you said(assholes)
2.They are trying some sort of recalibration. Eg: x player has 3000 mmr and thinks he is better. He also thinks he can't climb because he is playing utility heroes and not carries. X smurfs in order to see that if he plays the only carry he knows best gets a 4k rating. After getting it(if he does) he starts playing again to see if the rating is true or if it drops.
3.They want to play with a newbie friend
Some people like that, something to do with a display of power. In the same way Russia and the US dodge war with each other and instead pick on developing nations like Ukraine and Afghanistan.
Why fight your equal and risk losing when you can overkill someone weaker as a show of strength.

I know as much as the information provided to me by both the media and social acquaintances living the Ukraine and Crimea as do you. Keeping in mind that the Ukraine has had administrative legislation over Crimea for a very long time and Russia's invasion and right to claim is not approved or recognized by the United Nations. The russian claims of coup d'etat are ill-founded and not without selfish motive.
I do have a smurf account which I used primarily use to play with friends that I am introducing to the game.
When they party with my main (which isn't even at a particularity good level) they just get completely frustrated at being completely wrecked, even in games that we are winning. Mostly due to them still trying to work out the UI, sensible items, positioning, etc.

You know as much, as media propaganda allowed you to. And don't tell me stories about "acquaintances", I can tell you even more of them. The very difference in my and yours knowledge is that I very carefully studied propaganda from both sides in question and I know what kind of bullshit information is proven from these sides. And I'm not lying when I say about "very carefully", because that time was the exactly same time when I were preparing for a travel to Japan, so all these "sanctions" stuff and ruble's inflation meant a lot for me.
You can't really trust information provided by any side of conflict. The things that are indeed true are:
1) By far the most of Crimea population is indeed pro-russian;
2) There were quite a lot of Nazi bullshit coming from new goverment;
3) USA clearly had "selfish motive" in all this situation.
On the other hand:
1) Russia indeed used military forces (glad I finished my military duty back then) with some bullshit reasoning;
2) Russia pretty much used default USA's way to get away after doing complete bullshit via being an important provider of natural resources for Europe.
That's quite a bad topic to even try to have a clear opinion on. The only people who know the truth are probably USA's and Russia's government.
So, even if we are talking about "display of power" this particular case is completelly off. This was quite a direct confrontation, just without using real violence.

Russia is searching for power back, and USA and EU are not going to do anything ( EU needs the russian gas ).
USA is as toxic to the world as russia is, it coudnt be more simple.
Which is why my analogy, both are pretty toxic bullies in the world and the countries in mention could easily be changed to any number of countries, I was simply calling out to a fact that most "big players" will never take on someone their own size.

I get what you are saying, i play with my friend who has maybe 100 games, and when i play with him i get some very unresponsive and retarded players in my team and the enemy is usually a 5 stack (WHY). But, if you smurf, eventually after 2 or 3 games the game will detect that you are better than all the new players and will give you opponents of your level, so what's the point?
I seriously doubt anyone plays a smurf account purely to stomp. I think they do it because they're unhappy with their record on their primary account and want to wipe the slate clean. That and the desperate hope that the MMR system is broken and by playing a new account they will magically find themselves in a higher skill bracket.
@sunrise im not smurfing but for example when i play with new friends they ask me to use another account while playing with them so the opponents dont rape them

Going 20-0 at your own MMR range feels way better because you're outplaying players which the system has deemed to be equal to you.
