@sugar show, you can't ward every single spot out there, riki is great if you know how to avoid common ward spots, look at zenoth rating with the hero, and he plays at 5.8k SEA

However if you plan to make the heavy roam, against low mobility support of enemy (or having an offlaner that can stand 1v2 but not 1v3 (like tide)) then you can chain kill middle, between the heavy damage of backstab, and smoke

If Riki manages to not die when the supports pop up the detection items, that's money wasted. You could argue that the team would be retarded to not kill Riki while he's detected, but the same argument can be used for Riki. If he's retarded enough to dive into the team knowing they are prepared and without some sort of back up, he shouldn't be playing Riki.

But on topic, don't send Riki mid, because even with what Matrice said about making it possible, it'll still be difficult if you are not completely prepared for it, considering he has the perspective of a 6k+ player.

I'm really not so sure about this. If you're going mid you're going to be using Smoke Cloud to make it hard for your opponent to lasthit, right? Still seems like an inferior Tinker because it doesn't come with damage, but Riki makes much better use of runes (minus invis rune lol) compared to plenty of mids, and he doesn't have a very spammable mana pool. Using bottle doesn't break invis so if I was going mid with riki for whatever reason I would definitely look at getting a bottle.

considering the range of the smoke, you already took a spell and 1-2 attack the time to come that close.

You cann't claim creep with your mana
you cann't harrass or if you do, you'll expose yourself way too much

The only time I see it working is when it's against a Meepo mid.

Any melee is mostly terrible against Meepo. Also most melee heroes have higher chance vs Invoker since Cold Snap nerf because now he neither has a way to clear creeps nor a way to harass efficiently.
