if mid is bad = mid lost...
i've been in situation while playing ranked .
a support bought a bottle and gave it to me.
mid won 10/10
one more time same happened at Heroes of newerth. support did same
BUT one time in dota i remember i was farm ez lane and sup gave bottle to storm mid vs kunka.. he lost and ofc we lost our suport couldnt even afford his boots till 20..
and then i went to smoke my tobbacco quietly

While mid is an important lane to win, I think gimping your nr 5 support will make you lose other lanes(he can't buy tp's, boots, sentry, smoke AND he won"t have acces to farm on the map to make up for his bottle rush
I think starting items on a support equals more 'control' than a 1 second bottle on mid
you have to judge whether the mid is going to make use of an early bottle first of all, in my mind if u give a hero like qop bottle + null at level 1 she will rape anything given a good block, she can make use of the early regen + stats really well.. plus it also depends on whether the mid needs to hit item timings.. for eg if you give ta the same treatment.. its like shes going to have phase bottle at like level 4 and nothing will come out of it, she only really needs phase when she hits 6, unless you are talking about a ta vs melee matchup.
plus it depends whether the enemy offlaner is a hard one or not, if it is hard you will be having 2 boot less supports getting raped and being 0 slotted 10 min in..
also depends on whether there are support eaters on the other team like ember storm slark etc, if you make the supports poor early they will just be economy for them
yeah there's really no point since heroes like qop mag storm etc really dont need the bottle till level 3 ish
on the other hand i guess you could keep the bottle on the support and that wouldnt be awful
you could actually soften the blow to the #5 by getting the mid to buy the courier and/or wards.
That's the same like saving for bottle as your very first item on mid imo. Maybe even worse. You don't need it so fast, and your support just won't be able to afford anything for next 15 minutes.
People pool their mids bottles a lot of the times when they random a support, its not that amazing.
Is it true that you can't "bottle crow" if that bottle is not yours? Last time I gave bottle to mid player he was confused.

Musing on my evening dog walk...never seen it done but seems super legit from my (sub-potato) view. but then again, most theorycrafting does.
Mid buys no regen, one support buys nothing, five man secure a rune for that support who then buys bottle which gets sent to mid.
Mid really should win his lane with his free bottle and the team has saved a creepwave of gold on regen overall (a salve and a couple of shared tangos)
Zeus would have a 1min bottle+soul ring from this and, ganks permitting, that seems like a very hard lane to lose.
Downside is obviously that your supports are a bit poor.
Apart from only working in an organised team, why isn't this done?
tldr: support rushes bottle, gives it to mid. mid won.
