Lifesteal is not needed, but MoM gives you attack speed and therefore it is a viable item. 17% ms is a good thing as well.
You dont need Lifesteal, but if you wanna do anyway, always do MoM. Only usefull item before cores like aghanim and assault.
mom or helm. someone else can get vlads. mom's good because of attack speed and your high base speed once you have levels in grow (345 with grow maxed) makes percentage-boosting increases better. helm is good because you can dominate an alpha wolf, which increases your base damage more than vlads does and you can build it into satanic in the late game if you need to, whereas vlads is a dead-end item that is got on carries that cannot use regular lifesteal.
since the mom nerf im not sure if you can still do it, but you could try getting mom before your aghs (p treads, mom, aghs), because you can farm the jungle and clear the lane much faster, kinda like getting treads on AM before bfury, the timing is more reliable.
I wouldn't get either, just grab a bottle or drums, then aghs, but if you go lifesteal go mom or dominator and use it to stack ancients, finish your aghs, kill a 4 stack, halfway to ac/manta/butterfly/whatever.
I just go treads, aghs moon shards then what ever is needed, I dont like mom as it got nerfed and as it makes you big target. Satanic is good on tiny as well as gives him armor. Sometimes I go vlads on tiny because he has a lot of base dmg.

MoM is like high risk high reward item,
46% of time worked for me, I like to go heavy items right away treads aghs moon shards manta ac bkb satanic butterfly what ever fits the best, sometimes don't even go life steal because don't need it but was recently thinking of getting dominator and stacking ancients then having alpha wolf follow me which would be lots of dmg, or centaur for attack speed and stun.
