i think it's a waste of money. the only worthy thing they're giving out is the dessert terrain. I bought one this year and honestly regret it. It feels like a fucking cash grab. They don't really tell you anywhere, or perhaps I'm blind on how to level up your compendium but there is sure as shit giant fucking ads to buy levels. I've looked in the compendium and on the compendium page and have not found any info on how to actually level them up. Just what rewards I can get if I level and of course the ads to buy the levels.
I figured out that right now, currently you have 3 ways. Predications (which one is already gone and the rest are currently not avalible) Complete challenges and buy the levels. It's like they made it so fucking painfully slow\difficult and with the giant ads you'll just bite the bullet and buy the levels, and sure they just released the blog post saying they're going to increase the ways.. but come on. They had a year to work on this shit and come up with ways. Previously ones felt like you were supporting the players and community and like they (valve) were saying thank you with a little something cool. Something about this year just feels like a big Fuck you and give us your money

Valve eventually took away all of the extra things that came with the compendium last year (almost nothing unique to the compendium is left aside from the effigy which I never got around to using anyway). It's also highly unlikely that you are going to like or use everything they bring out with the compendium. Immortals last year were dirt cheap, so if you can afford to buy the compendium just for the immortals, you're probably better off buying them at the community market as soon as they crash from the influx of items going in.
If you can earn your way to get it via playing other games, then I guess that's alright, but try not to buy it on your own.

going 226 is a waste of money imo. but we dont know what they gonna do with the immortals this year. maybe they be untradable or something. go around 100 and is fine. if every player would be 100 compendium valve would have to be creative and make more gifts and stuff since after level 95 it stop. except for imortal treasures 3

Im 27 years old and have been working since I was 15. 10$ is nothing to those who dont sit on their ass playing this game all day long. i will not however buy more compendium points to level up.. Yes I have only spent 25 dollars on a game that I play a ton, I have thrown a lot more money on crappier games , I'll prolly only spend money on compendiums anyways. Dota is best game I have ever played I think 30 dollars per year is not too much for that. I make 24 dollars an hour I can afford an hours pay towards such a good game.

The best thing you can do now is to NOT open your chests and just sell them on the first day you are able to trade them (because that's usually when they are highest) then just buy them again the next year when TI hype is back to make those chests dirt cheap (then people will start to trade it for a higher price soon after).
