Probably dumb question, but can minimal Linux installs (I.e. terminal based) open IDEs or Google chrome? Also how do they work with file organization (inside the apps) when using save as or whatever, will these open a gui?
to draw any sort of gui your app needs to use os' graphical library/api directly or via frameworks so if ur os does not have a graphical library you won't be able to launch a gui app
chrome (atleast Chromium) and other browsers have a terminal interface for usage, well in the terminal. But it works rather worse than good because modern internet is heavily reliant on JS and not pure html
in the end your os still needs to provide some sort of interface to work with gui as opposed to working with command lines, i.e windows does it by scanning input from mouse/kb/etc drivers, generating a specific event like key press or mouse move and passing it to an active window for it to decide what to do with it and a bunch of other things - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/winmsg/windowing
i have absolutely no idea how it works in linux(probably the same), but unless your linux version has an interface like that you can't run gui apps on it
There seems to be this which works well enough for my purpose
Do u know c++ Alenari? Have any good resources? Also how much time a day do u spend programming on average? I feel like I'm programming way less than I should, sure I do uni assignments and stuff but nothing id put on my cv
i program as much as my assignments require me to, and barely anything beyond that. i know c++ and i learned it the same way i learned everything else - i get some problem to solve, i google how to solve it and then i browse stackoverflow or some documentation and whatnot until i feel i understand enough, it works way better for me than following a guide (unless im doing some very specific things) because a)guides are profoundly boring and i have shit attention span; b)the nature of my assignments often requires me not to grasp some abstact/wide subject (i.e learning a language) but to quickly write a very specific program that does a very specific thing so it's very natural to just google the solution to my very specific problem
i wouldn't worry too much about having things to put on your cv - i don't know your curriculum but some amount of years before your graduation there probably will be companies that show up and just hire people who are about to graduate or even studying still, and they probably won't high expectations so you should be fine as long as you keep up with the curriculum (unless you want to start big in which case i'm not the person you should be talking to)
why would you want to learn c++ anyway? it's way easier for a rookie to get a job for java/c#/js/python(?) and associated technologies/frameworks than for c++, unless u want to make games or something (even then there's unity which uses c# and android devs use mainly java i think?)
Been doing java and c the past 2 years mostly, a decent bit of ocaml and a tiny bit of python
I feel like I just wanna have another language I can use, and c++ seems cool, combining the best of c and java

Yeah they do that here as well, yet I feel incredibly uncomfortable handing in a cv that is practically empty apart from uni projects or tiny side projects... but I guess everyone starts there

Alright ty, I guess it's fixable by installing some gui packages though right? Time for some googling
