Use anti vir, unlike other anti virus programs, it doesn't eat a shitton of ressources.

i used three free antiviruses afair, and two of them were good. not all the free software sucks.

now it's just a annoying icon that keeps telling me that my computer is endangered and when i click it and get to the menu, literally none of the buttons respond anyhow

also it causes my internet connection to come online like 2 mins after i turn on the computer (for those two minutes it pretends like everything is fine), pretty good shit when you get bluescreen in the middle of dota

Common Sense 2015 works great for me, been using it awhile now. Never needed any other, never will because...

                                                          1. Browsing habits are good, don't know what it is don't do it, or click it.
                                                          2. Computers are like houses. If not maintain or cleaned it will be messy, and becomes pest ridden.
                                                          3. Use trusted downloading sources for products or simply ask. Google searching "Download X or Y" is an awful idea.
                                                          4. If you're using torrents, check comments and download only the file you need.
                                                          5. If anything is in .rar format it's an instant NO!

100% of viruses aren't even viruses, just bloatware, or phishing content which forces you to buy or further bloat your machine which can potentially lead to further issue if going unchecked.

I use CCleaner http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup510.exe to clean up my computer once every couple of weeks and its a good habit to check browser extenstions, and programs installed to make sure nothing has crept on without you knowing.

Worse cases you might have to download Malwarebytes to just do that deep clean if you're already deep in content phishing or malware.

EDIT: Most of the AV's above are as bad as the viruses themselves as they serve as bloatware for years in the chance that one day you might get something wrong. Just have better browsing habits and you won't need a virus program ever. Why buy into a cure for a disease you can avoid by being healthy.

Antivirus programs won't protect you from yourself and you can still get extremely bad bloatware because it's not technically a "virus" so it's not picked up as such.

Use adblocker which will help you making those mistake clicks that will cost you.

Thanks Havoc, I've been using CCleaner for some time now and it worked as intended.

I've never actually experienced any issues with viruses, imo even if it is not as useful as it is portrayed there is no real downside of having one.

It's just a precaution, i noticed my computer taking more time to do basic tasks, hence this thread

the reason why antiviruses are considered bloatware is because they're constantly using ressources to scan your pc constantly, non stop. also they tend to deactivate a lot of windows features and use their housemade products which are usually worse.

If you suspect you have a virus launch something like maleware bytes and do a one time scan, let it fix stuff, then turn it off. If you run something like AVG free version uninstall it after you are done. You don't need active anti virus unless you're a total idiot and click on every internet popup.

                                                                            Mokujin
