1) They won't know that you've bought a ward unless they're dewarding, in which case they probably already know that they have wards in the shop and are buying them.
2) You're going on the assumption that your enemy is bad and is not buying wards. If you assume your enemy is bad you're going to lose a lot.
3) Wards are amazing. You should buy wards and encourage others to buy and use wards. Seriously. Get Wards. And put them down in places that will provide useful vision.
Well, if Riki/BH/any invis hero notices you autoattacking him in invis they'll know you warded.
I was watching this Riki player stream.
And Crystal maiden said : buy sentries pls
And riki said: no. if we do, the enemy will buy sentries too and then im screwed
If you buy sentries, you don't autoattack the invis hero. You wait till you have a good opportunity and then kill him. Since sentries come in sets of 2, you should still have one left. If the enemy buys a sentry to deward your sentry, just eat theirs with a tango before they can kill yours. A lot of people don't remember that you can eat sentries with tangoes. If they keep buying sentries, buy more tangoes and make sure you always have at least one sentry with you so you can see theirs.
In any case, as Riki or any invis hero I start with a set of sentries so that I'm ready to deward if they try kill me.
Think about it this way.
No team is willing to buy a ward because they don't want the enemy team to follow suit. So the status quo is no wards for either team. Pretty good for Riki since his invis can be used as both a fighting ability and a warding ability now.
If one team starts to a ward, then this premise is void. The other team will not want to be disadvantaged, so they will buy a ward too.
So both teams can freely buy wards, including the enemy team.
Now they are in a competition of who has more wards.
And that sucks for a Riki main.
No, one of the main advantages of playing an invis hero like Riki is that it forces the enemy to buy wards. If CM buys a set of wards that's 200 less gold. She could have used that gold to upgrade the courier, buy a ring of protection for her tranquil boots, or gotten a couple of TP scrolls. But she can't because buying sentries is more valuable for her team. If the sentries result in a kill on the Riki then she earns that money back and the sentries were a valuable purchase. However, if the Riki has his own set of sentries ready and instantly eats her sentry the moment CM tries to kill him then shes made a loss in money.
You could argue that Riki also loses out on 200 gold, but for him its avoiding a death and I'm sure anyone will agree that avoiding a death is worth 200 gold. Also, Riki can simply move between lanes ganking, which forces all 3 lanes to have sentries, so the enemy team ends up spending a lot more money on sentries then him.
Actually none of my enemies buy wards.
Except that once when Invoker was trying to tell us to buy wards and accidentally said it in all chat.
If you don't buy any sentries or dust against a Riki then you deserve to lose.
In any case people buy sentries more often then you think, even in very low skill games
HEY GUYS, PAY ATTENTION TO THIS GUY RIGHT HERE. YOU CAN LEARN A THING OR TWO FROM THIS 30% WIN RATE DUDE WHO BEGAN PLAYING DOTA LIKE 2 WEEKS AGO.
Even sub 1k people still buy sentries
-Source, I've been there.
Depends. If you get matched with smurfs sure.

Did you know that wards are necessary? I mean, wtf dude, if enemy team has invis hero, I'm obviously gonna buy even if they buy or not and trust me to actively deward yours too.
I'm usually not mean like a lot of the stuck up pricks on this site, but...

This is the dumbest thing i've ever read on here, not joking. What fucking status quo? You are in 1K MMR (I don't think i'm better than you or anything cause of that) but there is NO PSYCHOLOGY INVOLVED IN THAT BRACKET, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. There's no, if I but this, they might think to buy this, then they might do that, if we do that, people barely buy sentries in that bracket to begin with.
reverse psychology, crazy stuff man, powerful stuff. be careful.
probably shouldn't buy any bkbs or blinks either cus enemy team will you know, notice you have them and want them too.
It's like capitalism, greed = good, except in dota greed = bad cus you point out all the shiny things your opponent could buy with their gold. I know I prefer my opponents to just sit on 2k gold until they have enough for rapiers.
Let's talk about a hypothetical magical fireball spell that's really powerful. Nobody wants to learn that spell because it could be really powerful and could cause great consequences.
But then one wizard decides to learn the fireball anyways.
Everyone else is really scared. "OMG he knows that powerful spell. What if he decides to use it against us?"
So another wizard decides "Well, I'm gonna learn that spell just in case I need to defend myself." So he learns that spell.
And then his neighbor hears about that and says "well, I better learn that spell too, so I could also defend myself in case the other 2 wizards who know that spell decide to use it for evil."
After a while, the cycle goes on until every wizard knows that spell.
Now the world of wizardry is more dangerous and the spell is bound to get into the hands of an evil wizard.
Replace fireball with ward. And replace evil wizard with enemy team.
There you go.
^ I was thinking about the topic of guns and gun control, but I didn't want to approach a controversial topic on a Dota forum.
So I changed it to fireball.
this topic is great. Your fireball example is a tad ridiculous, as the relative advantage brought by wards is insignificant in comparison to guns/nukes/fireballs.
At best your analogy would describe why
People spam op heroes in top tier games.
Every time you post, I die a little inside.
There is so much fallacy in your post I can't even be bothered to point them out.
So what happens when two teams buy wards independent of each other? (e.g. starting at the fountain). Void argument.
Somewhere, in Russia or South America...
A young child just keeled over in his breakfast cereal. "GEORGE! What is wrong?" Sylvia asked her younger brother.
"Idiots, Syv, idiots, everywhere."
This guy puts more hours into a troll account than I am able to actually play dota
Life is misery
wtf is this shit
i will read it again when i wake up
maybe i read wrong cus no sleep
WTF
Nice flame bait OP 11/10,it's amazing how you still managed to be so successful in trolling after almost a week or 2.

you're also letting the enemy know that there are wards in the shop and that they can buy them too
