Rod of Atos Tinker legit? in General Discussion

I'm not a good tinker player. Know alot about his gameplay but not practicing it that much.
    Back to the topic:
What's your oppinion on going atos against storm? It has more range than his orchid, provides with good manapool and costs cheaper than hex, moreover can be canceled to combine crown + staff into dagon so... why not?

To be honest, my intuition tells me that it's not normal, but i wish i can find out some arguments against atos tinker here in the discussion.

It's probably fine, but I think the typical train of thought is that tinker never has gold problems. He farms faster than maybe any hero in the game once he has BoTs, Blink, Bottle and Soul Ring. So if you have that high a GPM at that point in the game, would you rather have the Atos? Or a Scythe of Vyse? Sure the Scythe is more expensive, but it can catch heroes before they BKB, doesn't get purged by a euls, can't be disjointed or dodged by a highly skilled storm, and gives better stats.

So for all of those reasons, Scythe is usually tinkers go-to control item. It's not necessarily that Atos is bad or doesn't fit what the hero wants to do, it's that there's an item that achieves the same things in a better way with better scaling to the late game.

The idea was not spaming marches but preventing storm from escape from a range higher than the orchid's by an item which is quiet cheap. Secondly, when u play against storm u usually go with your team, spam 3-4 stacks of march under ur position to prevent initiation and hide. So, when u have atos u can catch storm under your marches, even if he flied to you and cought and it also provides some stats to outlive the dmg taken. Thirdly, if the game goes good u just wont buy it and change your build to daggon with a crown and wizzardstaff, cuz build with snowballed dagon is an also a very good way to play against storm.

But it's only a theory. In fact i don't know what would be in a real game, it became to be a reason of my question here.

The other thing i'm not sure about is the timings. Atos affects target for 2 secs, while rearm takes 1.5, but it also takes a time on its flight, so thats all in fact seems like you have to time it perfectly.

@Cptn.Canuck y, it's actually what i was thinking about: the hex is just a better choice in any game, especialy when u have a hero with great farm potential, but... than i just thought about pros and top tiers spaming the god damn atos every game, because of it's stats on the background of other stats items being a bit nerfed - and the idea occupied me. TY for your answer, appreciated.

It's pretty garbage in most cases, You always go hex over atos, it just isn't worth the slot

                  PERFECT TOAST

                    Why not both? :)

because your item slots are limited and you don't want to buy something to sell 10 minutes later. most items that tinker buys will still be kept late game such as blink, hex, dagon, even aether lens' cast range is really useful late, whereas atos is an item that you will eventually get rid of.

not saying that every item needs to be useful late, sometimes you do need items like euls or force just to play your game properly but it does hurt your late game when one of your 6 slots needs to be a defensive item.

maybe if you're losing really hard and you can't get to the secret shop to save up and buy hex, but then you're not playing to win you're playing not to lose. i'd still rather have a dagon even in cases where the root is useful, if you don't kill someone with your dagon combo you can force them back to base which still frees up the map. that being said it seems worth trying at least once. item builds that were previously unheard of can suddenly become new meta.
